Highlights from the agenda are below. In addition, following the meeting, the Commissioners adjourned to the hallway to present some of the annual $18-million check distributions to county schools. The amounts are below and are based on the population of county students in each school district. - Pleasant Grove Storm Shelter $11,000
- City of Brighton Storm Shelter $11,000
- Town of Mulga Storm Shelter $11,000
- Graysville Storm Shelter $11,000
- Leeds Senior Center $20,000
- Hopewell Senior Center $20,000
- St. John Dolomite Senior Center $20,000
- Spring Gardens Senior Center $20,000
- Commissioners approved an intergovernmental agreement between Jefferson County and the Jefferson County Economic and Industrial Development Authority (JCEIDA), to provide design services for the new JeffMet North Industrial Park.
The following were approved grants from Commission district funds: District 1: (Commissioner Lashunda Scales) - Community Kitchens of Birmingham in the amount of $25,000 for the Mobile Connections Food Insecurity Program.
- The execution of a community grant to the Docena Civic League, providing funds in the amount of $10,000 for bathroom renovations/repairs and furniture.
- The execution of a community grant Program to the City of Fairfield, providing funds in the amount of $5,000 for Jerry D. Coleman Community Center furniture.
District Paving Grant Program Agreements:- Jefferson County Board of Education in an amount not to exceed $52,500 to support pavement infrastructure enhancements at Park West Athletics Facility.
- Jefferson County Greenways Commission in the amount of $165,000 to provide new pavement infrastructure that will allow traffic flow through the entrance, extensions from the entrance and a parking lot at East Lake Park.
- Forestdale Community Development Association and JeffCo Roads & Transportation in an amount not to exceed $40,000 to support pavement infrastructure enhancements at Holiday Hills Park that will improve traffic flow and road safety mechanisms.
District 2: (Commissioner Sheila Tyson) - Budget transfer(s) from District 1 and District 2 community grant funds to the Community Development Department to provide financial support for the Senior Services Division and its outreach programs, including the Senior Christmas Program.
- Community grant to Nurturing Golden Hearts for $25,000, to assist with the food distribution program which benefits Jefferson County residents.
- Community grant to Consumer Financial Education Foundation of America in the amount of $20,000 (D2-$10,000.00; D3-$5,000; and D4-$5,000), to assist with its financial literacy program designed to teach money and credit management skills to Jefferson County school students.
District 3: (Commissioner Jimmie Stephens) Had no community grants on this agenda. District 4: (Commissioner Joe Knight) Community Grant Program Agreements: - Tarrant City Schools in the amount of $2,500, to assist with their Parent University program.
- City of Leeds in the amount of $1,500, to assist the Leeds Senior Center with various programs and activities throughout the year.
- City of Irondale in the amount of $1,500, to assist the Irondale Senior Center with various programs and activities throughout the year.
- City of Fultondale in the amount of $1,500, to assist the Fultondale Senior Center with various programs and activities throughout the year.
- City of Clay in the amount of $1,500, to assist the Clay Senior Center with various programs and activities throughout the year.
District 5: (Commissioner Mike Bolin) - Community Grant to the City of Mountain Brook for $45,000, to support the purchase of a Technical Rescue Response Truck for the Mountain Brook Fire Department.
