The Commission vetted 39 items on the agenda on Tuesday and approved them on Thursday. In the public hearings, case Z-25-0028 was postponed for 30 days, and 2 properties on the Resolutions for Special Assessment were postponed to allow the parties who attended the public hearings to meet with Development Services about their properties. 

Commissioner Stephens pulled item 36 for separate consideration. It was the resolution for the approval of a liquor license for the former Wesley's Boobie Trap location. It was not a public hearing, and the resolution was denied.

Highlights from the meeting include: 
Economic Development:
  • The approval of tax abatement (non-educational sales/use & personal property taxes) related to the StoneX project. The project involves a significant expansion of the Nasdaq-listed, Fortune 50 company, which already has a strong presence in the community. The company expects to invest $10,963,175 in the project with the creation of 88 new positions paying an average wage of $85,281. In the previous Commission meeting, the County approved an additional job incentive capped at $250,000 for the project as well. 

Roads and Transportation: 
  • Intergovernmental agreement with the City of Trussville to pave portions of Edwards Lake Road that are in the Trussville city limits. 
  • Intergovernmental agreement with Walker County for the paving of Trammel Road located in Walker County. 

Community Grants: 
Commission District 3: Commissioner Jimmie Stephens
  • Community Grant with the Hoover Service Club for $10,000 ($5,000 D-3, $5,000 D-5) for the 2026 Hearts in Harmony Project that will provide scholarships for need based Jefferson County students.
Commission District 4: Commissioner Joe Knight
  • Community Grant with the Jefferson County Board of Education for $3,500 to assist Bryan Elementary with the purchase of Learning Progression Kits for the teachers.
  • Community Grant with Sidewalk Film for $25,000 to assist with the expansion of the Film Center and Cinema.
  • Community Grant with First Light for $2,500 to assist with the operations of its emergency shelter.
  • Community Grant with the Glennwood Fire District for $16,930, to assist in the purchase of new turnout gear.
  • Community Grant with the City of Gardendale for $1,500 to assist the Gardendale Senior Center with various programs and activities. 
 There were no other community grants from the other Commission Districts in this meeting.
